Practicing proper installation methods ensures the functionality and longevity of your customer’s equipment. One of the most common mistakes our technicians see is the improper sealing, or even a complete lack of sealing, of our open array Radar antennas during installation. Improper sealing leads to water intrusion that results in a myriad of issues, including reduced functionality and longevity. Our new generation of NXT and X-Class Radars utilize a new gearbox with three different antenna array options. All three share the same open array sealing method. The information below are extracted from the full installation manual.
Â
All the necessary materials to properly seal the open array are provided in the box, with Three Bond sealant and the required O-ring included in the packing materials. It is vital that the supplied O-ring is installed, as shown in Figure A:
Â
Â
After the O-ring is in place, you will need to apply a heavy coat of Three Bond sealant to the rotating base atop the pedestal as shown in Figure B and demonstrated in the image below:
Â
Â
After applying Three Bond sealant to the rotating base of the pedestal, flip the open array upside down and apply Three Bond sealant to the four bolt holes as shown in Figure C:
Â
Â
Next, coat the bolt threads before bolting the open array to the rotating base, as shown below in Figure D:
Â
Finally, coat the bolt heads as pictured in Figure E. When finished, the bolt heads should be completely covered.
Â
Â
You will need to ensure that the heads of the mounting bolts at the bottom of the gearbox are covered with sealant as shown in Figure F below:
Â
Â
The threads and mounting nuts should be fully covered after installing anti-corrosion insulation sheets as shown below in Figures G and H.
Â
Â
By following these important steps, water intrusion will be prevented, ensuring full functionality and longevity of the Radar.
