How to Seal Newer Style Furuno Radar Gearboxes

Proper sealing helps protect newer Furuno open-array radar gearboxes from water intrusion. The NXT and X-Class radar generation uses a gearbox with three antenna-array options, and the source instructions note that all three share the same open-array sealing method.

Sealing sequence

  • Install the supplied O-ring as shown in Figure A.
  • Apply a heavy coat of Three Bond sealant to the rotating base atop the pedestal as shown in Figure B.
  • Flip the open array upside down and apply Three Bond sealant to the four bolt holes as shown in Figure C.
  • Coat the bolt threads before bolting the open array to the rotating base as shown in Figure D.
  • Coat the bolt heads until they are completely covered as shown in Figure E.
  • Cover the heads of the mounting bolts at the bottom of the gearbox with sealant as shown in Figure F.
  • Cover the threads and mounting nuts after installing anti-corrosion insulation sheets as shown in Figures G and H.
