When it comes to safety, Radar is an essential tool on the boat, especially when navigating in areas with little to no visibility. Therefore, taking care of it is crucial. Radomes are designed to be used and stored in the upright position. However, in cases where vessels have hinged Radar masts or need to store the Radome in other positions, the possibility of water intrusion is introduced. To prevent water damage, Furuno USA recommends the use of our breather modification kit (P/N DOM-WTR-PLG this is a Special order item) to help mitigate water intrusion for select installations.
Â
Note on the DRS4W specifically - Never turn the DRS4W upside down without first installing bolts and washers as described in the manual.
Â
To install the kit, simply place the plug over the existing breather valve at the bottom of the dome. Place a thick bead of marine-grade sealant around the outside lip of the protection cap. The sealant should make a tight seal around the modification cap without blocking the dome breather valve and should be allowed to fully cure before returning the dome to its normal operating position.Â
Â
When installed properly, this modification will provide additional water intrusion protection. Full installation instructions for this modification can be found here.

Effective March 25th, MapMedia MM3D Navionics vector charts will no longer be available from Furuno USA. MM3D Navionics charts purchased prior to March 25th will continue to function on all NavNet 3D, TZtouch, TZtouch2, and TZtouch3 MFDs, as well as the GP3700 series and FAR14X6 series Radars. These charts can also be transferred to any unit that requires a System ID change, such as in the case of a chart master failure. The Furuno FA50 AIS has recently experienced GPS rollover along with some other GPS products (See Service Advisory #2021-03). This is a challenge to all manufacturers due to satellite limitations.
Â
While software revision v2.02 has been available to prevent impact to this device, most customers have not updated units in the field. FA50 units with v2.01 and older software have stopped transmitting due to this GPS rollover event. It is recommended that these devices be updated to restore full operations.Â
Software, software history, and complete software update information can be found under the "software" tab of the FA50 product page. Customers who prefer not to conduct the update themselves, or pay dealers for local service, can send their FA50 to Camas for a free courtesy software update. Only the cost of return shipping will be incurred by the customer.
Warranty Allowance
This software update is provided at no charge to all FA50 customers. Furuno USA's standard warranty and travel allowances are NOT applicable to this upgrade. Dealers wishing to offer this upgrade as a service to their customers are authorized to charge whatever upgrade fee they deem reasonable for labor and materials.
