Yanmar X0146647-01 Wear Plate
The Yanmar X0146647-01 is the genuine wear plate for Yanmar marine diesel sea water pumps that use this part. It is the flat plate the impeller runs against inside the pump, and it is there so that the impeller wears the plate rather than the pump body.
It is the part most often left in during an impeller change, and the reason a rebuilt pump sometimes still runs warm. Take it out, hold it to the light and look across the face. If you can feel the grooves with a fingernail, replace it - it costs a fraction of the impeller and it decides how much of the impeller output actually reaches the engine.

Q: How worn is too worn?
Hold the plate to the light and run a fingernail across it. Grooves you can feel, or any loss of flatness, are enough to cost flow and mean it should be replaced.
Q: Why does the plate wear at all?
Everything the strainer lets through goes between the impeller vanes and the plate. Sand and grit are abrasive, and over a season they polish a set of grooves into the face.
Q: Does it matter which way round it goes?
Yes. One face is the running face and it carries the wear pattern. Note the orientation before removing it, and fit a new plate the same way round.
Q: Can I turn the old plate over and reuse it?
It is not designed to be reversible, and the back face is not finished to run against an impeller. Fit a new one.
