The Yanmar 22252-000300 is the factory snap ring used in Yanmar marine diesel sea water pumps that use this part. It looks trivial and it is not: everything it retains depends on it staying seated in its groove while the pump turns.

In salt water they also corrode, and a corroded ring loses section until it snaps. Fitting a corroded ring back into a freshly rebuilt pump is a false economy on a part that costs almost nothing.
