The Yanmar 129670-42580 is the genuine impeller key for 3JH3, 4JH3 and 4JH4 Series engines. It is the small piece of steel that locks the impeller to the shaft so that the drive is transmitted through the key rather than through friction alone.

Check that the new key is a firm fit in both the shaft keyway and the impeller, and that it is not standing proud of the shaft where it would foul the wear plate.

Q: Why do keys corrode so badly?
They sit in salt water in a steel keyway, often between dissimilar metals, which is close to ideal conditions for corrosion.
