Yanmar 129579-42160 Wear Plate for Yanmar generator sets
The Yanmar 129579-42160 is the genuine wear plate for Yanmar engines used in marine generator sets. It is the flat plate the impeller runs against inside the pump, and it is there so that the impeller wears the plate rather than the pump body.
A wear plate fails by being scored. Grit, sand and the occasional piece of shell go through the pump with the raw water, and each pass leaves a fine scratch until the face carries a set of circular grooves. Those grooves are leak paths: water carried round by the vanes slips back across the plate instead of going out of the discharge, and flow drops even though the impeller is new.

Q: Can I turn the old plate over and reuse it?
It is not designed to be reversible, and the back face is not finished to run against an impeller. Fit a new one.
Q: Is it worth replacing with every impeller?
Inspect with every impeller and replace when it is marked. On a boat that picks up sand or shell, that often works out to every second impeller.
Q: My pump flow dropped suddenly rather than slowly. Is the plate the cause?
A worn plate gives a gradual loss. A sudden drop usually means a sheared vane, a blocked strainer or a collapsed intake hose.
Q: How worn is too worn?
Hold the plate to the light and run a fingernail across it. Grooves you can feel, or any loss of flatness, are enough to cost flow and mean it should be replaced.
