The Yanmar 128170-42090 is the genuine replacement cover gasket for 1GM and 1GM10 engines. It goes between two machined faces and keeps what is behind them where it belongs.

On a raw water joint the consequence of a tired gasket is corrosion as much as leakage. Sea water that creeps between two faces sits there, and what it leaves behind is a pitted joint that never seals properly again.
