The Yanmar 124223-42070 is the factory slinger used in the sea water pump fitted to 2GM20F and 3GMF Series engines. It is a simple guard - a disc that spins with the shaft and uses that rotation to keep water from tracking further along it.

A slinger is a second line of defense, not a substitute for a good seal. If it is obviously wet in service, the seal ahead of it has already failed and both should be dealt with together.
