Yanmar 119578-42620 Wear Plate for 6LY3
The Yanmar 119578-42620 is the factory wear plate used in 6LY3 Series engines. It gives the impeller a hard, flat sealing face on one side of the pumping chamber, and it is deliberately the cheapest part in that stack.
It is the part most often left in during an impeller change, and the reason a rebuilt pump sometimes still runs warm. Take it out, hold it to the light and look across the face. If you can feel the grooves with a fingernail, replace it - it costs a fraction of the impeller and it decides how much of the impeller output actually reaches the engine.

Q: Is it worth replacing with every impeller?
Inspect with every impeller and replace when it is marked. On a boat that picks up sand or shell, that often works out to every second impeller.
Q: My pump flow dropped suddenly rather than slowly. Is the plate the cause?
A worn plate gives a gradual loss. A sudden drop usually means a sheared vane, a blocked strainer or a collapsed intake hose.
Q: How worn is too worn?
Hold the plate to the light and run a fingernail across it. Grooves you can feel, or any loss of flatness, are enough to cost flow and mean it should be replaced.
Q: Why does the plate wear at all?
Everything the strainer lets through goes between the impeller vanes and the plate. Sand and grit are abrasive, and over a season they polish a set of grooves into the face.
