The Yanmar 119578-42560 is the factory cover o-ring used in 6LY3 Series engines. In a pump that runs in salt water, an inexpensive elastomer seal is what stands between an ordinary service and a corrosion problem.
Replace on sight rather than on condition. A ring that looks serviceable can have a flattened, glossy band where it sat, and a ring in that state will pass a dry test on the bench and leak as soon as the engine runs. Nicks from a screwdriver used to lever the old one out are the other common cause, and they are invisible until it is all back together.

Yes. A seal on the suction side lets air in rather than water out, so there is nothing to see while the pump quietly loses its ability to prime and pull.
