Yanmar 104211-42130 Spacer for 2GM and 3GM
The Yanmar 104211-42130 is the genuine spacer for the sea water pump fitted to 2GM and 3GM Series engines. It is not ordinary hardware: the grade, the length and the material are chosen for a fastener that lives in salt water and holds a joint that has to stay sealed.
Substituting hardware store items is a poor idea here. The wrong material sets up corrosion between dissimilar metals, the wrong length bottoms out before it clamps, and the wrong grade stretches. Keep a few spares with the impeller kit and the problem does not arise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use a stainless fastener from the hardware store?
It is a gamble. Material, grade and length are all chosen for the joint, and the wrong material in a dissimilar metal housing sets up corrosion that seizes the thread.
Q: Mine is seized. Any advice before I break it?
Heat, penetrating oil and patience, and a properly fitting driver rather than an approximate one. Once the head rounds off the job gets considerably harder.
Q: Should I use anti-seize?
Yes, on the threads. It is what allows the joint to be opened again next season without a fight.
Q: How tight should cover screws be?
Snug and even in a cross pattern. Overtightening bows the cover, which is one of the most common causes of a pump drawing air.
