Yanmar 104211-42071 Impeller for 2GM to 3GM30
The Yanmar 104211-42071 is the factory flexible impeller used in 2GM, 3GM, 3GM20 and 3GM30 Series engines and the YSB and YSM Series. Everything the engine does to stay cool depends on it, and it is the one component in the cooling circuit that is expected to be replaced on a schedule rather than when it fails.
Replace on time rather than on failure. An impeller that is still pumping can already be cracked at the root of the vanes, and the cost of changing one on a schedule is nothing next to a cooked heat exchanger or a scored cam. Inspect the wear plate and the cam at the same time, because a new impeller running against a grooved wear plate will not restore full flow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I fit the impeller dry?
No. Wet it or use a little glycerine, and turn it so the vanes trail in the direction of rotation. That protects the vanes on the first revolution and makes the impeller far easier to fit.
Q: Can I carry a spare for years?
Yes, if it is stored in its packaging, out of sunlight and away from heat. What ages rubber on the shelf is light, heat and being left compressed.
Q: How often should the impeller be changed?
Follow the engine service schedule, and in practice once a season for a boat in regular use. Age matters as much as hours, because the rubber hardens and takes a set whether the engine runs or not.
Q: Some vanes are missing. What now?
Account for every one before the engine runs again. Missing pieces travel to the heat exchanger and block tubes, which causes the same overheat with a new impeller fitted.
