Yamada 771094 Flat Valve, PTFE for NDP-5
The Yamada 771094 is a factory PTFE flat valve used in NDP-5 Series pumps with polypropylene wet ends. It lifts off its seating face on the suction stroke and is pushed flat against it on the discharge stroke, doing the same job as a check ball with far less movement.
Running the pump dry is the fastest way to ruin a set of flat valves, and so is a sudden temperature change with thick product in the chamber. Replace all four at once: a mixed set gives uneven check action between the two chambers and makes the pump run unevenly.

Q: Is there a right way up?
Yes. The sealing face goes against the seat and the hinge or locating feature has one position. Note how the old ones sit before removing them.
Q: Why did the valves curl?
Usually heat, dry running, or chemical attack softening the material. Working out which one it was decides whether the same material is the right replacement.
Q: How is a flat valve different from a ball valve pump?
A flat valve hinges open and lies flat against its seat rather than lifting clear of it, so the valve chamber is shallower and the pump reseats reliably at low flow and in orientations where a ball would be slow to drop.
Q: How do I know the valve is worn?
Lay it on a flat surface. A serviceable valve lies flat with no daylight under the edge. Curl, ripple or a raised lip anywhere around the sealing face means it will leak on the return stroke.
