Yamada 771088 Bushing for NDP-5
The Yamada 771088 is a factory bushing used in NDP-5 Series pumps. It is a wear part by design - it is meant to take the wear so that the machined housing around it does not.
A worn bushing lets the shaft move off center, and that immediately loads one side of the seal it runs through. The seal then wears on that side, starts passing air, and the pump becomes sluggish. Replacing the seal without replacing the bushing is the reason some air motors are back on the bench within weeks.

Q: Can I fit new seals and leave the bushing?
It is the most common false economy in this job. A worn bushing lets the shaft run off center and the new seal wears on one side straight away.
Q: What causes a bushing to wear quickly?
Contamination. Moisture in the compressed air and product that has leaked past a failed diaphragm both turn the sliding fit into an abrasive one.
Q: Does the shaft need checking too?
Yes. A scored or ridged shaft wears a new bushing rapidly, so inspect it before reassembly and replace it if it is marked.
Q: Should both bushings be replaced together?
Where the pump uses a pair, yes. They share the same shaft and the same hours, and an uneven pair pulls the shaft out of line.
