Yamada 771057 Pilot Valve Gasket for NDP-20 to NDP-32
The Yamada 771057 is the genuine pilot valve gasket for NDP-20, NDP-25 and NDP-32 Series pumps. It seals one of the machined joints in the pump, and like every gasket in an air motor it is a part that costs very little and causes a great deal of trouble when it is left in place too long.
Gaskets take a set in the shape of the joint and stick to one face, so they almost always tear on disassembly. Replacing rather than reusing is not a preference, it is the practical reality of opening the joint. Clean both faces back to bare metal before fitting the new one and check for scoring while the joint is open.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I use sealant as well?
No. The joint is designed to seal on the gasket alone, and sealant squeezed into an air passage is a good way to create a fault that is very hard to find.
Q: How should the faces be prepared?
Clean both back to bare metal with a plastic scraper, then check for scoring across the joint. Do not use an abrasive disc, which dishes the face and creates the leak you are trying to cure.
Q: How often should gaskets be replaced?
Every time the joint is opened, and as a matter of course whenever the air valve or pilot valve is being serviced for a running fault.
Q: Can I reuse a gasket that came off in one piece?
It is not worth it. The gasket has taken a set in the joint and has lost the compression it needs to seal, and an internal air leak is difficult to diagnose once the pump is back together.
