Yamada 771054 Cushion for NDP-20 and NDP-25
The Yamada 771054 is the genuine cushion for NDP-20 and NDP-25 Series pumps. It absorbs the impact at the end of the stroke, where the moving assembly would otherwise arrive hard against a machined face several hundred times a minute.
Cushions harden, flatten and eventually crumble. A pump that has become noticeably noisier or harsher at the end of each stroke usually has cushions that have lost their give, and running on in that state passes the shock straight into the center rod, the disks and the diaphragm beads.

Q: What does a worn cushion sound like?
The pump develops a distinct knock at each end of the stroke and generally sounds harder than it used to. The change is gradual, so it is often only obvious next to a pump that has been serviced.
Q: Does a hard cushion damage anything else?
Yes. The shock it is supposed to absorb is passed into the center rod, the center disks and the diaphragm clamp, all of which are far more expensive than the cushion.
Q: Are they worth replacing at every service?
They are among the cheapest parts in the pump and reaching them is most of the work, so yes - replace them whenever the assembly is open.
