Yamada 770569 Gasket

The Yamada 770569 is a factory gasket used in Yamada air operated double diaphragm pumps using this gasket. It is cut to the exact port pattern of the joint it seals, which is why a generic sheet gasket is not a substitute - the holes have to line up with the air passages.

Fitting a gasket the wrong way round blocks a passage and gives a pump that will not start at all, so note the orientation before the old one comes off. The holes are not always symmetrical.

Q: How should the faces be prepared?
Clean both back to bare metal with a plastic scraper, then check for scoring across the joint. Do not use an abrasive disc, which dishes the face and creates the leak you are trying to cure.

Q: How often should gaskets be replaced?
Every time the joint is opened, and as a matter of course whenever the air valve or pilot valve is being serviced for a running fault.

Q: Can I reuse a gasket that came off in one piece?
It is not worth it. The gasket has taken a set in the joint and has lost the compression it needs to seal, and an internal air leak is difficult to diagnose once the pump is back together.

Q: The pump runs erratically or stalls. Could a gasket be the cause?
Yes, and it is a common one. A blown gasket lets air cross between passages, so the valve never gets a clean signal to shift and the pump hesitates, stalls or exhausts continuously.
