Yamada 709316 Center Rod for NDP-5

The Yamada 709316 is the genuine replacement center rod specified for NDP-5 Series pumps. It is the mechanical link between the two diaphragm assemblies and the part that makes the pump self reciprocating.

Corrosion is the other enemy, and it comes from product getting into the air side after a diaphragm failure. A rod that has been running in contaminated air is often pitted along its length, and a pitted rod destroys a new set of packing within hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the rod need lubrication on assembly?
Yes. Yamada specifies grease on the rod where it passes through the bearing. Assembling dry accelerates wear on both the bearing and the packing.

Q: Can I reuse the old packing with a new rod?
No. The packing has bedded to the old rod profile and will leak against a new one. Fit new packing and, if it is worn, a new throat bearing at the same time.

Q: Why is the rod for PTFE diaphragm pumps different?
PTFE diaphragms have a different stroke geometry and clamping arrangement, so the rod length and thread detail differ. Match the rod to the diaphragm type the pump is built with.

Q: What causes a bent rod?
Usually hydraulic shock from a valve closed suddenly against a running pump, or reassembly with the diaphragm plates misaligned. A bent rod wears the bearing on one side only.
