Yamada 706054 Center Disk, aluminum for NDP-80
The Yamada 706054 is a factory center disk used in NDP-80 R generation pumps with aluminum wet ends. It carries the clamping load on the diaphragm bead and sets the point at which the flexible part of the diaphragm begins.
Disks also dish. Years of clamping load and thermal cycling leave the plate slightly cupped, and a cupped disk no longer clamps the diaphragm bead evenly, so the bead leaks and the diaphragm creeps out of the clamp. A disk laid on a flat surface should sit flat all the way round.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does an abrasion pad do the same job?
No. A pad sits against the diaphragm to take abrasive wear on solids laden duty, extending diaphragm life. The disk carries the clamping load.
Q: Should both sides be replaced together?
If one disk is being replaced because of damage, check the opposite one closely. They share the same stroke and usually the same condition.
Q: Do the disks need replacing every time the diaphragm is changed?
Not always, but they should be inspected every time. Replace any disk with a burr, a lifted edge, corrosion pitting or a visible cup, because all of those shorten the life of the new diaphragm.
Q: What is the difference between the air side and liquid side disks?
They sit on opposite faces of the diaphragm. The liquid side disk is exposed to the pumped product and is made to suit it; the air side disk sees only compressed air. They are not interchangeable.
