Yamada 686826 Air Shutoff Ball Valve for NDP-5 to NDP-15
The Yamada 686826 is the genuine air shutoff ball valve for NDP-5, DP-10, DP-15, NDP-15 and DP-20 Series pumps. It is the shutoff in the air supply to the pump - the quarter turn that isolates the air motor so the pump can be stopped, or worked on, without disturbing the rest of the air system.
Air shutoffs fail by leaking past the seat when closed and by seizing in one position. A valve that passes air when closed leaves the pump creeping instead of stopping, which is a nuisance at best and a hazard when someone is about to open the pump up. A seized one is simply useless at the moment it is needed.

Q: The pump creeps with the valve closed. Why?
The valve is passing air past its seat. Replace it rather than working around it, since this is the valve people rely on before opening the pump.
Q: Why has the valve seized?
Moisture and debris in the air line. A filter regulator with a water trap upstream keeps this valve and everything else in the air motor working far longer.
Q: Where should the shutoff be fitted?
Upstream of the pump air inlet and within reach, so the pump can be isolated quickly without tracing the line back to the compressor.
Q: Does closing this valve vent the pump?
It isolates the supply. Air already in the motor and any trapped pressure downstream needs to be released before work begins.
