Weinman 135660 Adapter Kit Q 2 Pole - 280 Frame, 375 and 575 Series
The Weinman 135660 is the genuine Weinman adapter kit for Q casing, 2 pole, 280 JM motor frame, used on 375 and 575 Series back pull out pumps. The adapter is the structural bridge between the casing and the driver: it bolts to the motor face or the bearing frame, carries the casing, and holds the stationary half of the mechanical seal square to the shaft.
Because the adapter sits between the wet end and the driver, it gets the worst of both worlds - pumped liquid on one side, vibration and clamping load on the other. Flange faces get levered, threads get stripped by repeated strip-downs, and eventually the casting no longer holds alignment to the tolerance the seal needs.
Check the register faces and the seal bore on the new casting before assembly, and clean the mating surfaces back to bare metal. This kit covers Q casing, 2 pole, 280 JM motor frame, and the whole job of the adapter is to hold alignment - which it can only do against clean, undamaged faces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the number of motor poles really change the part?
On the sizes where Weinman lists separate two pole and four pole kits, yes. The higher speed driver is built differently and the adapter has to suit it, so a kit that looks right by casing size alone can still be the wrong one.
Q: Can a pitted seal bore be sleeved rather than replaced?
It is done, but it needs accurate machining to keep the bore concentric with the register. Unless the casting is hard to obtain, a new kit is quicker and removes the alignment risk entirely.
Q: Does the adapter affect impeller clearance?
It does. The adapter fixes the axial position of the casing relative to the shaft, so the front clearance at the impeller depends on it. Follow the Weinman setting procedure rather than assuming it lands correctly.
Q: Should the mechanical seal always be renewed with it?
Yes. The seal has to come out to change the adapter, and refitting a used seal onto a different seat almost guarantees a leak within weeks.
