Q: What does the number after the dash mean?
It is the elastomer. Tuthill publishes 57 for neoprene, 77 for Viton and 87 for EPR against the same size, so the middle number is the size and the last is the material.
Q: Why choose Viton over nitrile?
Temperature and chemical compatibility. Viton tolerates far higher fluid temperatures and a much wider range of oils and solvents than a nitrile ring.
Q: Does it need a sealant?
No. An O-ring seals by being squeezed in its groove. Sealant on an O-ring joint usually makes the next strip down harder and can hold the ring off its seat.
Q: How many are in a pump?
