Tuthill P606-9 Bearing Locknut N-08 Steel
The Tuthill P606-9 is a genuine bearing locknut in the N-08 size, made in steel. The locknut is what clamps the bearing onto its shaft seat and holds the whole bearing stack in position. It is a small part with a big job, because the bearing position is what holds the running clearance inside the pump.
The locknut and lockwasher work as a pair and are always replaced together, because a tab that has been bent once will not hold reliably a second time. Tuthill publishes the same nut in N-05, N-06 and N-07 sizes as P606-1, P606-24 and P606-30, so the size code on the old nut is the thing to read. Work clean. A chip of old washer left under the new one holds the bearing off its seat by just enough to matter.

Q: Are the nut and washer sold together?
They are listed as separate part numbers, so order both if both are coming off.
Q: Which comes first on the shaft?
The washer goes on under the nut with its inner tang in the shaft slot, then the nut is run down against it.
Q: Can the old one be reused?
A lockwasher, no. Once a tab has been bent and straightened it will crack. A nut can sometimes be reused if the slots are undamaged, but replacing both is cheap.
Q: How do I identify the size I need?
Read the N or W number stamped on the part that came off. Tuthill publishes the 05, 06, 07 and 08 sizes as separate part numbers.
