Tuthill CC15I650B Relief Valve Assembly 110 to 175 PSI CC09 Series
The Tuthill CC15I650B is a genuine relief valve assembly rated at 110 to 175 PSI, supplied for Tuthill CC09 Series close coupled gear pumps. It is supplied as a complete assembly with body, bonnet, spring and guide, so there is nothing to build up on the bench before it goes on. Every positive displacement pump needs a route for the flow when the discharge is closed off, and this is it.
The assembly arrives complete with body, bonnet, spring and guide, so there is nothing to build up on the bench. Its companions are CC15I650-W for 0 to 110 PSI and CC15I650-R for 175 to 250 PSI, and the CC09I656 gasket is what seals it to the pump. Set the valve for the duty and then leave it alone. Continuous bypassing builds heat in the pump cavity very quickly, and that heat is what takes out seals and bushings.

Q: How do I pick the right range?
Work from the normal operating pressure of the system and choose a range that sits above it with headroom, so the valve stays shut in normal running.
Q: Can I stretch a spring to raise the setting?
No. A stretched spring loses rate as well as length, and the setting will drift. Fit the spring that covers the range you need.
Q: Will the valve regulate system pressure for me?
No. It is a safety device for over pressure only. Pressure regulation needs a control valve in the piping.
Q: Which way round does the assembly go?
The adjusting screw has to face the suction side of the pump. Fitted the other way round the valve cannot relieve properly.
