Tuthill 4C2BVC7 Gear Pump End 36 GPM with Relief Valve Clockwise
The Tuthill 4C2BVC7 is a size 4 cast iron gear pump end from the C Series, moving a nominal 36 GPM through 1-1/2 inch NPT inlet and outlet ports. It ships as the pump end alone, without a motor or a drive. With a rotor and an idler gear as the only moving parts, the C Series handles thin lubricating oils and heavy viscous stock alike, and the published viscosity range runs from 40 all the way to 10,000 SSU.
This build is flange mount with a Viton mechanical seal, which sets its pressure envelope: inlet pressure to 250 PSI, maximum differential pressure of 150 PSI and maximum discharge pressure of 300 PSI. The V option adds an internal relief valve, supplied with a spring covering 30 to 225 PSI and set to bypass fully at 90 PSI. It protects against over pressure only and is not a flow control device, so continuous bypassing will build heat inside the pump cavity and damage the internals. This is the 4C2B mechanical seal build with the V relief valve option added, so it carries both the 300 PSI discharge rating of the C2B and the integral bypass. The adjusting screw sits on the suction side of the pump and must be oriented that way on installation. Like all C Series pumps it must not be used on plain water, corrosive liquids or abrasive slurries, and it must never be run dry.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the pump self prime?
It will prime on its own once the internals are wetted, but the ports should face upward on installation so air can clear. If nothing is discharged after about sixty seconds, stop and find out why rather than letting it run.
Q: Is a motor or a mounting foot included?
No. This is a bare pump end. Mounting feet are listed separately by pump size, and C face adapters are published across the NEMA range from 56C up to 326TC.
Q: What is the difference between the B and the F builds?
The B build uses a mechanical seal and carries the higher pressure ratings, up to 250 PSI inlet and 300 PSI discharge. The F build uses a spring loaded lip seal and is limited to 25 PSI inlet and 100 PSI discharge.
Q: Which shaft seal does this pump take?
Lip seal builds in the size 3 and 4 frames take the 3CF94-7 in Viton, and the size 2 frames take the 2CF94-7. Mechanical seal builds take the 3C1B9 series, with the dash number setting the elastomer.
