Tuthill 2RFD34.010 Cover Gasket 0.010 in for 2RLE Series Pumps
The Tuthill 2RFD34.010 is a genuine cover gasket for Tuthill 2RLE reversing size 2 L Series pumps. It looks like a simple joint seal, but on an internal gear pump the gasket thickness is also the end clearance adjustment, which is why the factory publishes more than one thickness. Fitting the wrong thickness will either cost capacity or let the rotor touch the cover.
The RFD gaskets are the reversing cover gaskets, listed at item 3 on the size 2 L Series parts list. Because the cover on a reversing pump can be rotated through 180 degrees to change the suction side, the gasket has to seal in either orientation, and it is replaced every time the cover comes off. Before the cover comes off, mark it against the housing so it goes back in the same orientation. Then clean both faces properly, because a scrap of old gasket left behind changes the clearance just as surely as the wrong part would.

Q: Can I cut my own gasket from sheet?
It is a false economy. Thickness tolerance is what sets the clearance, and hand cut sheet is rarely within the few thousandths of an inch that matters here.
Q: Do I need sealant as well?
No. A correctly cut gasket on clean faces seals on its own, and sealant adds an uncontrolled thickness to a joint where thickness is the specification.
Q: Which thickness should I order?
Work from the clearance you measure, not from what came out. A worn pump usually wants a thinner gasket and a hot duty usually wants a thicker one.
Q: Can I stack two gaskets to make up a thickness?
Only if the parts list says so. Stacking gaskets that were not designed for it leaves a joint that relaxes and weeps.
