Tuthill 2LEV-H-C High Pressure Internal Gear Pump End 6.2 GPM
The Tuthill 2LEV-H-C is a cast iron internal gear pump end rated at a nominal 6.2 GPM through 1/2 inch NPT inlet and outlet ports. It is supplied as a bare pump end with no motor, ready to be coupled, adapter mounted or bolted directly to the equipment it serves. The whole series works on just two moving parts, a rotor and an idler gear turning against a crescent shaped partition cast into the cover, and that simplicity is the reason these pumps have such a long service life on clean lubricating fluids.
This build carries the internal relief valve option, supplied as standard with a spring covering 55 to 120 PSI and set to give full bypass at 55 PSI. The relief valve is over pressure protection only and is not a flow control device, so it must not be left bypassing continuously or the heat that builds in the pump cavity will damage the internals. The adjusting screw has to sit on the suction side of the pump when it is installed. Rotation is clockwise as viewed from the shaft end, and because this build carries the relief valve it is direction specific rather than bi-rotational. The drive end is a standard straight shaft. The H in this model code is the factory high pressure build, so it is the one to order when the duty runs above what a standard LEV handles. Relief valve springs for the L Series are published in graduated ranges from 55 to 120 PSI up to 375 to 500 PSI, and the spring fitted determines the pressure at which the valve begins to bypass. These pumps are built for fluids with lubricity and must not be used on plain water, corrosive liquids or abrasive slurries, and they must never be run dry.
Key Features
- Cast iron internal gear design with only two moving parts, a rotor and an idler gear
- Nominal capacity of 6.2 GPM through 1/2 inch NPT inlet and outlet ports
- Self priming, with the series designed to pull a minimum of 25 inches of mercury
- Internal relief valve set at 55 PSI and field adjustable through the supplied spring range
- Mechanical face shaft seal with a carbon rotating face against a lapped stationary seat
- Wide speed range of 300 to 3600 RPM suits direct drive, belt drive and geared arrangements
- Supplied as a pump end only so it can be coupled, adapter mounted or fitted straight to equipment
Applications
- Machine tool, gearbox and bearing lubrication systems
- Burner oil and fuel oil transfer and circulation
- Low pressure hydraulic power units and control circuits
- Lubrication circuits on air compressors, gas compressors and engines
- Heat transfer oil and quench oil circulation
- Original equipment builds where a compact bare pump end is needed

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know which way the pump has to turn?
Rotation is quoted looking at the pump from the shaft end. Models without a relief valve will run either way, but any model with the V relief valve option is built for one direction only and must not be reversed.
Q: It primes but the flow is low. What should I check first?
Start with air, not with the pump. Suction leaks, a blocked strainer and too much suction lift all show up as low capacity. If the suction vacuum is above 15 inches of mercury the piping is the problem rather than the pump.
Q: Can I thin the gasket stack to bring back capacity?
Yes, that is the published adjustment. The cover gaskets are supplied in graduated thicknesses and fitting a thinner one closes the rotor end clearance, which recovers a worn pump. Mark the cover to housing alignment before you take it apart.
Q: Will it handle water or a water based coolant?
No. The internals need the lubricity of an oil. Plain water, corrosive liquids and anything abrasive will take the bushings and the rotor out quickly, whatever the elastomer specification is.
