The Roper 3622HBFRV is a 3600 Series heavy duty gear pump in the 22 size, built with flanged ports, an outboard ball bearing and an integral relief valve. This one is supplied to Roper specification 10137 as a steam jacketed pump with aluminum gaskets. Displacement is 0.22 gallons per revolution, giving up to 169.5 gallons per minute at the 750 revolutions per minute maximum, at differential pressures to 125 pounds per square inch, through 3 inch flanged connections.
Jacketing exists for products that will not move until they are warm and will set solid if they are allowed to cool in the pump. Steam or hot oil is circulated through a jacket around the pump body, keeping the casing at temperature so the liquid stays fluid through a shutdown and the pump can be restarted without being broken down and cleaned out. It is the standard answer for bunker fuel, asphalt mixes, refined sugars, creosote, printing ink and heavy molasses. The aluminum gaskets go with it: standard fiber gaskets are rated only to about 212 degrees Fahrenheit, while aluminum and Teflon carry the joint up to around 450 degrees, which is what a jacketed service needs.

Q: Does the jacket have to be on before the pump is started?
Yes, on any product that stiffens when cool. Bring the jacket up and give the casing time to soak through before the drive is energized, or the pump turns against solid material.
