The Roper 3622GHBFORV is a 3600 Series heavy duty gear pump in the 22 size, built with a gear reduction unit, flanged ports, an outboard ball bearing and an integral relief valve. Displacement is 0.22 gallons per revolution, which gives up to 169.5 gallons per minute at the 750 revolutions per minute maximum, at differential pressures to 125 pounds per square inch, through 3 inch flanged connections.
This is the largest of the small 3600 frames and, with reduction on the head, it makes a compact high volume package for heavy product. The built-on reducer is worth choosing for the reason Roper designed it: it allows small adjustments for different driver shaft heights, which makes lining the motor up far easier than aligning a pump, a separate reducer and two couplings on a fabricated base. It also removes a coupling and a bearing set from the drive train. On the 11 through 22 frames the published ratios are 3.20 to 1, 3.94 to 1 and 4.60 to 1, which from a 1750 revolutions per minute motor put the pump at 545, 445 or 380 revolutions per minute.

Q: Is a built-on reducer easier to install than a separate one?
Considerably. The reducer is already located to the pump, so the only alignment left is motor to reducer, and the unit is designed to accommodate different driver shaft heights.
Q: How much horsepower will a package like this need?
It depends on pressure and viscosity far more than on flow. Roper publishes maximum permissible horsepower figures for each GHB ratio, so size the motor against the duty rather than the pump.
Q: Does the relief valve protect the reducer as well?
Indirectly. By capping the pressure the pump can build, it caps the torque the reducer has to pass, which is a meaningful part of what keeps a reducer alive.
Q: Can the package be mounted on an existing base?
Usually, but check the bolt pattern and the shaft height before committing. A geared pump sits differently from a direct driven one of the same size.
