The Roper 3617HBRV is a 3600 Series heavy duty gear pump with a tapped port case, an outboard ball bearing and an integral relief valve, built in the 17 size. Displacement is 0.17 gallons per revolution, which gives up to 127.5 gallons per minute at the 750 revolutions per minute maximum, at differential pressures to 125 pounds per square inch, through 2 inch NPT tapped ports. It ships standard with graphite packing and bronze bushings.
The 17 is the middle of the three small 3600 frames and it is often the most useful of them, because it carries half again the displacement of the 11 on the same 2 inch porting. That makes it a straight capacity upgrade on an existing 2 inch line, with one caveat worth checking first. More displacement has to be filled through the same inlet, so the suction side is what limits the gain: a line that comfortably fed an 11 can pull the suction pressure down once a 17 is turning at the same speed, especially on cold or heavy product. If the pump gets noisy where the smaller one was quiet, that is the reason, and slowing it slightly usually recovers more delivery than it costs.

Q: How much more will this move than the 11 size?
Displacement goes from 0.11 to 0.17 gallons per revolution, so at the same speed it is roughly half as much again, provided the suction side can keep it fed.
Q: Will my existing 2 inch pipework still suit it?
The ports match, but the flow does not. Check the suction line velocity at the new duty before assuming the old pipe is adequate.
Q: What tells me the pump is cavitating?
A harsh crackling note, a suction gauge pulling further down than expected and delivery below what the displacement predicts. Left alone it pits the gears and the bores.
Q: Is this pump self priming?
Yes, once it is wetted. It will not prime reliably from bone dry, and a dry start is hard on the packing and the bearings.
