Roper Pump 3611GHBORV 3600 Series Gear Pump with Built-On Gear Reduction and Relief Valve
The Roper 3611GHBORV is a 3600 Series heavy duty gear pump supplied with a built-on gear reduction unit, an outboard ball bearing and an integral relief valve. The leading G in the configuration code is the reducer. Size 11 displaces 0.11 gallons per revolution and is rated to 750 revolutions per minute and 125 pounds per square inch, with 2 inch NPT porting and the standard graphite packing and bronze bushing fitting.
Reduction is what lets a heavy or viscous liquid be pumped from an ordinary motor. Roper publishes the GHB ratios for the 11 through 22 frames: from an 1150 revolutions per minute motor, 4.60 to 1, 3.94 to 1 and 3.20 to 1 give pump speeds of 250, 290 and 360 revolutions per minute; from a 1750 motor the same ratios give 380, 445 and 545; and a 3450 motor through 4.60 to 1 gives 750. The reducer mounts on the pump head rather than on its own base, so alignment to the pump is fixed by machining and the only routine attention it needs is keeping the correct gear oil at the correct level. It runs on its own charge of oil, entirely separate from the liquid in the pump.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the ratio be changed later?
The built-on reducer is selected for the duty, so changing ratio means changing the unit. Settle the pump speed the product needs before the package is built.
Q: Why not just use a slower motor?
Below about 1150 revolutions per minute motors get large and expensive very quickly. Reduction gets the pump where it needs to be while the motor stays a standard, stocked item.
Q: What maintenance does the reducer need?
Its own gear oil kept to the level plug and changed on schedule, and a clear breather. A blocked breather pushes oil straight out past the shaft seals as the case warms.
Q: Does reduction change how much pressure the pump can make?
No. It changes shaft speed and therefore flow. Pressure capability comes from the pump and from the relief protection fitted to it.
