The Roper 2AM08 is an A Series external gear pump in the foot mounted build with an integral relief valve and a mechanical shaft seal. Size 08 gives 0.009 gallons per revolution, 16.2 gallons per minute at the 1800 revolutions per minute maximum, and a working pressure to 150 pounds per square inch through 1-1/4 inch NPT ports. It is the same hydraulic end as the flange mounted 18AM08, presented on feet instead of a motor face.
Foot mounting is the arrangement to choose when the driver is not a C-face motor, when the pump has to sit on an existing base, or when access for service matters more than a compact footprint. Because the pump and driver are separate, alignment becomes a job you own rather than one the casting does for you, and it is worth doing with an indicator rather than a straight edge. The integral relief valve returns liquid to the suction side if the discharge is shut, which protects the pump and the drive, but it is a safety device and not a flow control: left cracked open in normal running it recirculates liquid inside the pump and heats it quickly.

Q: What is the difference between this and the flange mounted version?
The pumping end is the same. The difference is how it is carried: this one bolts down on its own feet and is coupled or belted to a separate driver, rather than bolting to a motor face.
Q: Is the relief valve adjustable?
Yes, and it should be set to the pressure your system needs rather than left where it arrived. Set it against a gauge with the pump running and the discharge throttled in a controlled way.
Q: Can it be used on a closed loop circulation system?
It can, provided there is somewhere for pressure to go. Closed loops are exactly where a relief valve earns its place, because a single stuck valve can otherwise dead head the pump.
