Robbins & Myers 320-5878-000 Reducer Gasket for Moyno 400 Series Grinder Pumps
The 320-5878-000 is the genuine Moyno reducer gasket for the Moyno 500 400 Series grinder pumps 41502, 42202, 43302 and 44402. It seals a bolted joint between two machined faces in the pump, filling the small irregularities that stop metal on metal contact from being liquid tight on its own.
Gaskets are the cheapest part in any pump and the one most often reused out of convenience, which is why a rebuilt pump so often weeps from a flange rather than from the shaft. A compressed gasket has already conformed to one particular set of faces in one particular position, and it will not do so again. Fit a new one on every reassembly, clean both faces back to bare metal first, and pull the fasteners down evenly rather than one at a time. It seals the reducer to the stator housing on the grinder end, where the cutter assembly sits, so it is disturbed on any cutter service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The old gasket came off in pieces. Does that matter?
Only in that every trace has to come off both faces before the new one goes on. Use a plastic scraper rather than a steel blade, since a scored face will leak whatever gasket is fitted to it.
Q: How tight should the fasteners be?
Even matters more than tight. Pull them down in a crossing pattern in two or three passes, and stop at the point where the gasket is compressed rather than crushed, since over tightening extrudes it and causes the leak it was meant to prevent.
Q: Can it be reused if it still looks perfect?
It will look perfect and still leak. The material has already taken a set against one particular position of one particular pair of faces and cannot conform a second time.
Q: How many should be kept as spares?
Two is a sensible minimum on a pump in regular service, so a torn gasket during a strip down never becomes the reason the pump stays out of service.
