Onan 518-0306 Retaining Compound
The Onan 518-0306 Retaining Compound is used where Onan assembly procedures call for a retaining compound between mating metal parts. It stays liquid in the bottle, then cures once it is confined between metal surfaces with the air excluded, locking the joint and sealing it at the same time.
Use it only where Onan assembly instructions call for it. Applying a retaining compound to a joint that was designed to be a press fit, or to one that has to come apart at the next service, makes the next repair far harder than it needs to be.

Fixture and full cure times depend on the metals, the joint clearance and the temperature. Allow full fixture time before loading the assembly.
Q: Can a joint be taken apart afterwards?
Usually with heat and the right pullers, but plan on it being difficult. Do not use it on joints that come apart at every service.
Q: Will it fill a badly worn housing?
It handles normal diametral clearance, not a bore that has worn oval or oversize. Fix the bore properly instead.
