Every raw water pump needs a shaft seal, and the Onan 132-0308 Water Pump Lip Seal is the one fitted to this Onan pump. It runs continuously against the turning shaft, holding back pump pressure on one side while excluding grit and salt from the bearing cavity on the other.
Seals fail from dry running, from grit scoring the sealing face, and simply from hours. Fit the new one square, handle the sealing face carefully, and check the shaft surface where it runs. Q: Can I fit a new seal without pulling the pump apart?
Usually not. Reaching the seal normally means removing the impeller and the shaft, so plan on a full strip.
