Onan 132-0297 Water Pump Wearplate
The Onan 132-0297 Water Pump Wearplate is the hardened plate that the impeller vane tips run against inside the pump. It gives the impeller a flat, smooth sealing face on the cover side of the housing so each vane pocket holds its charge of water all the way round to the discharge port. Without a true wearplate the pump loses volumetric efficiency long before anything sounds wrong.
Wearplates groove, pit and dish with age. Once you can feel a ridge with a fingernail where the vane tips track, or the plate has cupped enough to rock on a flat surface, the pump will be slow to prime and will lose flow at idle. Replace the wearplate whenever you fit a new impeller after a dry running episode, because the same heat that cooked the vanes will have scored the plate.
