Q: Can I fit any motor of the same horsepower?
No. Frame size, shaft dimensions and mounting have to match, and horsepower on its own tells you none of those.
Q: How do I confirm rotation?
Check the direction marking on the pump and bump the drive briefly before the system is pressurised.
Q: Does enclosure type matter below decks?
It does. A damp machinery space is a different environment from a dry plant room, and the enclosure rating should reflect that.
Q: Should the coupling be renewed at the same time?
Inspect it. A coupling that has run against a failing drive component has usually taken some of the damage.
