Oberdorfer 6175 Gasket – OEM Pump Replacement Part
Oberdorfer has moved much of its range to static cover O-ring seals specifically to get away from gasket problems, but gaskets remain the right answer at a number of joints, and the 6175 is the factory part for its position.
A gasket that is reused, or one that has been fitted to a face with old material still stuck to it, will weep. The time spent cleaning both faces back to bare metal is the difference between a joint that seals and a joint you revisit.
Do not use sealant as a substitute for a proper gasket or for a clean face. It masks a bad joint rather than fixing it, and it complicates the next strip down.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I cut my own from sheet material?
You can, but matching the thickness and the material grade matters more than matching the outline, and on joints that set a clearance it is not worth the risk.
Q: Does it need sealant as well?
Normally no. A clean face and even torque is what makes the joint, and sealant mostly makes the next disassembly harder.
Q: Why does the joint weep after retorquing?
Once a gasket has taken its set, retorquing rarely recovers it. The fix is a new gasket on clean faces.
Q: How should spares be stored?
Flat, dry and away from heat. A gasket that has creased or curled in storage will not seat evenly.
