Oberdorfer 32523 Shaft – OEM Pump Replacement Part
The Oberdorfer 32523 is a pump shaft. It transmits torque from the driver to the pumping element and gives the seal a true, smooth surface to run against, which are two jobs with very different tolerances.
Corrosion under a bearing race or at a keyway is the other common finding, usually on a pump that sat wet through a lay-up. Pitting in those areas changes the fit and puts the bearing under load it was never meant to carry.
Protect the finish in storage and during fitting. A scratch in the seal track is enough to start a weep.

Q: Can a grooved shaft be built up and reused?
It can be done, but on a pump this size the cost of the work rarely beats the cost of a new shaft, and the repair has to be ground true afterwards.
Q: What causes a shaft to wear in the first place?
Abrasives in the pumped fluid working under the seal, dry running, and misalignment that loads one side of the seal harder than the other.
Q: Does alignment need checking after fitting?
Yes, on any pedestal or coupled installation. Misalignment is the fastest way to ruin the new shaft and the bearing with it.
Q: Should the bearing be replaced too?
If the shaft failed from corrosion or the bearing has run on a pitted seat, replace both. They will not last individually.
