Oberdorfer 32139 Cover – Fits 1000
The Oberdorfer 32139 is a pump cover. It closes the pumping chamber, carries the sealing face for the cover O-ring or gasket, and on many models provides the flat face the pumping element runs against.
Corrosion is the other reason a cover is replaced, particularly on pumps in seawater service that have been laid up wet. Pitting in the sealing groove will not hold an O-ring no matter how new the ring is.
Clean the sealing groove carefully and avoid metal tools on the face. Most cover leaks trace back to damage done during a previous service.

Q: Can a scored cover face be machined flat?
Light skimming is sometimes possible, but it changes the end clearance, so it is only worth doing where that clearance can be reset.
Q: Do I need new fasteners as well?
Renew any that are corroded or galled. Stainless fasteners in bronze can seize, and a snapped one turns a short job into a long one.
Q: Which seals fit under it?
That depends on the model. Check the parts breakdown for your pump so the cover seal and any gasket are matched to it.
Q: How tight should the cover fasteners be?
Even is more important than tight. Work in a cross pattern in stages rather than pulling one fastener down fully before starting the next.
