Oberdorfer 32001 Impeller – OEM Pump Replacement Part
The Oberdorfer 32001 is the impeller, the rotating component that does the actual work of moving fluid. Everything else in a centrifugal pump exists to support it and to collect what it throws.
Flexible and vaned impellers fail differently. A vaned bronze impeller erodes and loses efficiency; a flexible impeller takes a set, cracks at the vane roots, or sheds vanes entirely if the pump has been run dry. A shed vane travels downstream and has to be found before the pump goes back into service.
If the pump has been run dry, look for debris from the impeller in the discharge line and in the volute before reassembly.

Q: How do I know the impeller is the problem and not the intake?
Check the strainer and suction line first. If the suction is clear and output is still down at normal speed, the impeller or its clearance is the likely cause.
Q: Should a wear plate be renewed at the same time?
Where the pump uses one, yes. Clearance is what makes the impeller effective, and a new impeller against a grooved plate gives back only part of the lost flow.
Q: Does it matter which way the pump turns?
Very much. Confirm rotation against the pump marking before start-up, especially after a motor has been changed.
Q: Is it worth keeping a spare aboard?
For any pump on a critical circuit, yes. An impeller is small, stores well and is not something you want to be sourcing away from the dock.
