Oberdorfer 14 Service Kit – Buna-n Replacement Part
This is the Oberdorfer 14 service kit. Oberdorfer builds its pumps from bronze castings with stainless shafts and fasteners, and the metal generally outlives the soft parts by a wide margin, so a kit of seals, O-rings and wear components is usually all that stands between a tired pump and a pump that performs like new.
Rebuild rather than replace is the normal economic call on an Oberdorfer. A pump that has lost prime, lost flow, weeps at the shaft or has started to run hot and noisy is almost always telling you that the soft parts have gone, not that the casting is finished. Working through a kit also gives you a reason to inspect the bore, the shaft and the bearing surfaces while the pump is open.
Work clean, lay the parts out in the order they come off, and lubricate new elastomers lightly with a fluid compatible with what the pump handles before they are pressed home. Dry-fitting rubber into a bore is the quickest way to nick a new seal.

Q: Do I need any parts beyond the kit to finish the job?
Usually not, but gaskets or fasteners that are damaged on removal are worth having on hand. Check them as the pump comes apart.
Q: How often should a pump be rebuilt?
Duty decides it. A pump on continuous raw water service wears faster than one that runs occasionally, so go by observed flow and seal condition rather than a fixed calendar.
Q: Can I reuse the old parts that still look serviceable?
Elastomers take a set once they have been compressed and rarely seal as well the second time. If a component is in the kit, fit the new one.
Q: Should the pump be tested before it goes back in service?
Yes. Run it on a bucket or an open circuit first and confirm it primes, holds flow and stays dry at the shaft before it goes back into the system.
