March LC-3CP-MD Sealless Magnetic Drive Pump 230V

The March LC-3CP-MD is a sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pump built with polypropylene wet end with a hermetically sealed motor. The motor turns a drive magnet behind the rear housing, that magnet pulls the impeller magnet sealed inside the wet end, and the result is a pump with no shaft seal, no packing and no coupling alignment to maintain. For anything corrosive, expensive or simply unwelcome on the floor, that is the whole argument for a magnetic drive.

Installation is simple as long as two rules are respected. The LC-3CP-MD needs a flooded suction because it will not prime itself or lift, and it must never run dry, since the impeller relies on the pumped liquid for lubrication. Rotation should be clockwise when you look into the inlet. Service is equally simple, with the wet end coming apart with ordinary hand tools.

Q: Will it prime itself?
No. March magnetic drive pumps need a flooded suction and produce no suction lift, so the pump has to sit below the liquid level unless a self priming chamber is fitted.

Q: What happens if it runs dry?
The impeller bushing and shaft lose their only lubricant and wear very quickly. A few seconds is survivable, a few minutes usually is not.

Q: Which way should the motor turn?
Clockwise when you are looking into the inlet of the pump.

Q: Why would I need a trimmed impeller?
Liquids heavier or thicker than water, and hot liquids, all load the magnetic coupling harder. Trimming the impeller brings the load back within the coupling rating.
