The 1U-MD is March magnetic drive construction in polypropylene wet end with a ceramic magnet impeller. The impeller assembly is the only moving part in the wet end, riding on a stationary shaft between thrust washers, and the drive magnet on the motor shaft turns behind a solid molded housing wall. That layout is why these pumps are specified for chemicals that would destroy a sealed pump in weeks.

Installation is simple as long as two rules are respected. The 1U-MD needs a flooded suction because it will not prime itself or lift, and it must never run dry, since the impeller relies on the pumped liquid for lubrication. Rotation should be clockwise when you look into the inlet. Service is equally simple, with the wet end coming apart with ordinary hand tools.

Q: Why would I need a trimmed impeller?
Liquids heavier or thicker than water, and hot liquids, all load the magnetic coupling harder. Trimming the impeller brings the load back within the coupling rating.

The impeller assembly, the stationary shaft and the thrust washers. Everything else in the wet end is static.

Q: Can it run on 50 Hz?
These motors are rated for 50 and 60 Hz where the nameplate says so, but flow, head and speed are all lower on 50 Hz.
