This is the 24 mm bore hub for a Lovejoy L150 jaw coupling, the sintered iron workhorse of the L-Series line and one of the most widely used coupling styles in marine and industrial drive systems. Like every L-Series hub, it is machined with curved jaws that mesh with a flexible spider rather than bolting directly to the mating hub, which lets the coupling take up minor shaft misalignment without transmitting that stress into the motor or pump bearings.
Because torque passes through the elastomer spider rather than through direct metal contact between the hubs, the sintered iron hub sees very little wear during normal operation and rarely needs replacement on its own. When it does, it is usually because a shaft has been changed, a set screw has spun in the bore, or a technician is standardizing several pumps on the same coupling size. Q: How is the hub secured to the shaft?
A set screw seated over the shaft locks the hub in place. Re-torque the set screw after the first few hours of run-in and check it periodically after that.
Q: Can the spider be changed without removing this hub?
Not on the standard L-Series spider; the hubs need to be drawn back slightly to slide it out. Lovejoy also makes a radially removable SW-Series spider for L090 through L190 hubs that can be changed without moving the hubs, where that is useful.
Q: Do I need two of these hubs to build a complete coupling?
