Lovejoy L100 Jaw Coupling Hub, 20 mm Bore
Lovejoy has produced the L-Series jaw coupling for decades as a simple, field-serviceable way to join two rotating shafts, and this sintered iron L100 hub is bored to 20 mm for that job. Because the coupling comes apart into two hubs and a spider, a worn spider can be replaced without pulling the motor or pump off its mounts, and the coupling continues to turn even if the spider fails completely, since the two sets of jaws will interlock rather than let the shafts spin freely.
Because torque passes through the elastomer spider rather than through direct metal contact between the hubs, the sintered iron hub sees very little wear during normal operation and rarely needs replacement on its own. When it does, it is usually because a shaft has been changed, a set screw has spun in the bore, or a technician is standardizing several pumps on the same coupling size. Order a matching spider at the same time if the one already in service has not been checked recently.

Q: Can the spider be changed without removing this hub?
Not on the standard L-Series spider; the hubs need to be drawn back slightly to slide it out. Lovejoy also makes a radially removable SW-Series spider for L090 through L190 hubs that can be changed without moving the hubs, where that is useful.
Q: Do I need two of these hubs to build a complete coupling?
Yes. A complete L100 coupling needs one hub on the driving shaft, one hub on the driven shaft, and one elastomer spider between them. This listing is for a single hub, and the two shafts often need different bore sizes.
Q: Can I mix an L100 hub with an AL100 hub in the same coupling?
The two share the same size class and jaw geometry, but pairing iron and aluminum hubs is not the standard configuration. Keep the pair matched in material unless it has already been confirmed suitable for the application.
Q: What happens if the bore is larger than my shaft?
An oversized bore will not grip the shaft correctly even with the set screw tightened. Do not attempt to bush down a bore that is too large; order the correct bore size instead.
