Jabsco 18718-0000 Retaining Ring
The Jabsco 18718-0000 is a genuine Jabsco retaining ring, the spring-steel snap ring that holds the ball bearing captive in a flexible impeller pump. Jabsco uses these rings throughout its pump range to positively locate the bearing so that the shaft, impeller and cam keep the running clearances they were built with.
A retaining ring works by spring tension in a machined groove. That means it only does its job if it is fully seated and still has its original temper. Rings that have been repeatedly removed and refitted, stretched with the wrong pliers, or left to corrode in a saltwater bilge lose tension and can pop out of the groove under vibration.
Jabsco uses several different retaining ring sizes and two distinct positions — one holding the bearing to the pump body and one holding it to the shaft — across its pump range. Rings from different models look very similar but are not interchangeable, so please confirm this part number against the parts list for your specific pump before ordering.
Because a failed circlip usually takes the bearing, seal and impeller with it, this is one of the parts most worth renewing rather than reusing. Fit it with proper circlip pliers, seat it fully in the groove, and check it has sprung home before the pump goes back together.
