The Jabsco 18653-0001-P is a genuine Jabsco flexible impeller kit with a neoprene impeller. It has 10 blades, a 2 in diameter and a 7/8 in width, with a 15/32 in slotted shaft, pin drive, brass insert. As it turns inside the offset pump body, the blades bend and straighten, drawing liquid in and pushing it out, which is what makes a flexible impeller pump self-priming. Jabsco uses this impeller on specific pump models only, so match the part number against the parts list for the model on your pump plate before ordering.
Neoprene is the general purpose compound for water, raw water cooling and mildly abrasive liquids. Impellers are wear parts. Replace one when blades are cracked, torn or have taken a permanent set in the curved position, when the pump is slow to prime, or after it has run dry even briefly. Lubricate the new impeller with a little water pump grease before fitting it, and fit a new end cover gasket or O-ring at the same time.
