Jabsco 18316-0000 Wearplate Kit
The Jabsco 18316-0000 is a genuine replacement wearplate kit for . The wearplate sits behind the impeller and takes the rubbing wear of the impeller vanes so the pump body itself is protected. Its flat face is one wall of the pumping chamber, so it has to stay smooth for the vanes to seal as they sweep past.
When the wearplate is grooved or scored, liquid slips back past the vanes on every revolution, output falls and the pump is slow to prime even with a new impeller. Check the wearplate every time the impeller is changed. Replace it once a step or groove can be felt with a fingernail, and fit it the same way round as the original.

Not if the wearplate or end cover is grooved. Liquid slips through the groove whatever the condition of the impeller.
