Jabsco 17970-0100 Marine Engine Cooling Pump
The Jabsco 17970-0100 is a flexible impeller marine engine cooling pump built as the raw water pump for large inline six cylinder marine diesel engines, supplied as a bare shafted pump. It self-primes at low or high speed, with dry suction lifts up to about 10 ft and up to about 25 ft when wet, and it uses the 17370-0001 neoprene impeller, 17374-1000 cam liner, 17372-1000 wearplate and 17378-1000 end cover.
Raw water engine cooling pumps supply sea water to the heat exchanger, so worn internal parts show up as rising engine temperature, slow priming and reduced overboard flow. Replace the impeller on a set schedule, inspect the cam, wearplate and end cover faces at the same time, and rebuild the seals and bearings before they leak. Close the seacock only with the engine stopped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I inspect while the pump is open?
The impeller, cam, wearplate and end cover faces, shaft seal and bearings, since they wear together.
Q: Can the pump run dry?
Only briefly at start while it primes. Never run the engine with the seacock closed.
Q: How do I confirm this pump fits my engine?
Match the engine model and the old pump number. Send us a photo of the pump plate if the number is unclear.
Q: How do I know the cooling pump needs service?
Rising engine temperature, reduced flow at the overboard discharge and slow priming are the usual signs.
Not sure this is the right part? Send us a Picture of the Pump Plate on your pump and the CLR Marine team will confirm the correct engine cooling pump.
